The city of Peshtigo is perhaps best known for the 1871 forest fire that claimed a thousand lives and destroyed millions of dollars worth of property. Because of that fire, the city of Peshtigo is known as “The City Rebuilt from Ashes.” The Peshtigo Fire Museum provides a gripping historical perspective of the devastating fire.
Yet Peshtigo does not dwell on the past. With an expansive industrial park, the vibrant city has a strong business presence. The city’s population was 3,502 as recorded in the 2010 census.
The natural wonders of the Peshtigo River and nearby forests make the city a haven for people who like to sightsee, boat, fish, hike and camp.
